A wax figure of Jesus Christ
The Life of Christ, Fatima, Portugal
gems studio completed 206 figures for a new purpose-built wax museum in the town of Fatima just north of Lisbon, Portugal. Recreating ‘The life of Christ’ as a walk-through visitor experience, with extensive biblical tableaux, we worked very closely with the client and the museum designers to establish a style for the figures, which moved away from the classical renaissance interpretation to a more a semitic mediterranean feel.
The project comprised 50 new sculpted figures including 12 new sculpts of Jesus, four of which were nude figures, including a depiction of Jesus on the cross. The project took around three years to complete, throughout which communications with the client were paramount. The museum opened in April 2008 to excellent reviews.
Shown left, is a wax figure of Jesus Christ, which was sculpted specifically for this project. Figures were produced in a combination of wax and fibreglass to make the best use of the budget for this project. Our team went on-site to help install the figures and ammend hair and colouring in relation to the lighting of each scene.
