Figures from The Pleasure Gardens
Museum of London, London, England
GEMS STUDIO had been working on a project for the Museum of London’s massive refurbishment programme, which launched 28th May 2010. The project, which was both challenging and rewarding, saw Gems Studio produce 167 custom sized bodies on which the museum displayed clothing in the new galleries. The majority of the forms were cutaway style, which rightfully allow the clothing to take centre stage.
GEMS STUDIO worked alongside their sister company proportion>london, who won the contract back in September 2009. throughout this project the team had been conferring with the museum’s curators and conservators to plan and refine the costume bodies as the project developed.
Seen left, is a view of conservation grade clothing displayed in the museum's Pleasure Gardens. The clothing shown dates from the eighteenth century and is accessorised with intricate wirework wigs and millinery by Philip Treacy.
