Christmas tree installation for Boudicca
V&A Museum, Kensington, London
Boudicca is a London based fashion house, specialising in womenswear. As an honoured guest member of the Haute Couture, they regularly show at Haute Couture fashion week in Paris.
In 2007 Boudicca was invited to design the Christmas tree at the Victoria & Albert Museum, a highly respected privilege among British designers. The Boudicca team contacted gems studio with an unusual brief of highly intricate detail. Inspiration for the tree came from a morphing of images of victorian dolls, masks, robotics and Hans Christian Anderson's "The Little Match Girl".
Shown left, is a detail from the final installation at the V&A, showing the minute figure atop the 6 metre tree. A stock child's face was adjusted to give the facial details required by the team and glass eyes inserted. Custom fittings were designed for the arms to give flexibility and the slightly robotic features they specified. A hand made wig and feathered wings completed the doll like figure.
